Rick was still struggling with the
March 811,
as it just would not pull RPMs above about 7200. A miserable weekend
for Rick,
particularly since the engine had run like a train in the race just before
this (Vegas). We found out later that most of our running problems
were due to poor quality/dirty race fuel! Still, the car
looked mahvelous....

The Lola T70
was driven beautifully by both Hamish
and Pete
in the Enduro, which they won handily, with
Phil
Meany coming in a
good strong second in his Gropa Chevron,
having driven solo.
Well done, gentlemen!

Another podium finish (sans podium) for
Phil Meany, as
he takes 2nd in his Gropa
Divina Galica drove the wheels off
Hamish's BT37,
faster than most of the more contemporary cars down the straight and
simply muscling them in the corners to stay ahead (that is, when it wasn't
in the gravel trap...).
Sunday's F1 race was not entirely the battle we had hoped for...
It had been so spectacular on Saturday, we were all looking forward to a
repeat performance.
As it happened, however, Hamish's FW07
jammed into 2nd gear and had to drop out on the 2nd or 3rd lap.
Pete in the
FW08 romped home
to victory, having worn out Hamish in the FW07,
and Divi
secured 2nd place in Hamish's Brabham.
A great win for Pete Gulick
and the Williams FW08
Divina Galica takes 2nd in Sunday's F1 race, another terrific drive in
Hamish's Brabham!

Rick
Carlino had to pull
off, as the March 811
engine still would not pull
above mid-7000s.
(Curses!!)
Our friend RickKnoop
(who was with us this weekend with his Tyrrell) was spectacular in the
last turn coming into the front straight. Shades of Ronnie Peterson
(which, when told of this, pleased him immensely). Poor
Knoop lost his
engine on Saturday due to a freak oil-fitting fracture, so his weekend was
done. He and his crew were then off to Indy to try and get the
engine fixed in time for the Glen.

It seemed like every race was a qualifying session for the next race. Miss
one and you started from the back of the grid... so alas, Sunday was a
complete let-down for our sports racers..
The T70
started from the back as Hamish
had missed Sunday's first session.
Phil turned up for
the morning bash in his Gropa
and was gridded second to a Lola 290-something. Unfortunately,
Phil's car wouldn't
start up, so he didn't take the green. He started eventually,
missing two laps however.
Hamish worked his
way up to 2nd, but could not close on the 290-something as he had done the
day before, holding the Lola off. In the end, he had simply used the
car's tires up!
Rick's
Chevron
B36 had developed
gearbox issues and, rather than ruin still more gears and dog rings, he
chose to park the car until the gearbox was fixed.
Still, like the March 811, the car
looked mahvelous....

The weekend surely had its highs and lows,
but there was some truly spectacular
driving by all of our drivers,
not to mention a couple of podium finishes,
including Pete Gulick
& Divi Galica,
Well done!
Lee & Dean Jones enjoy the moment,
as do podium-mates,
