VIR GOLD CUP HISTORIC RACES
Alton, VA
June 8 - June 10, 2007

The Gold Cup was somewhat of a last-minute deal for our four participants this year, with Phil Meany cajoling fellow racers, Bernard Bradpiece, Pete Schultz and Robert Allred to come out to play.  It's a really, really nice event that all seem to enjoy.

Robert Allred in his '67 Lotus Super 7
(above with Chuck Golder at his side)
was little short of spectacular on the track,
showing the established stars what he's made of
and blowing some of them away.

On race day, Robert came in 2nd overall,
just behind our old friend Jim Netterstrom.
It was a fine podium finish,
but alas, no podium photo!!

Well done Robert!!!

Pete Schultz in his Elan was with Robert all the way, the Elan having never gone quicker or handled better.

That is, until the car mysteriously died in the qualifying race whilst holding 4th place.

This relegated him to starting the feature race in last place -- in a field of some 40 cars.

By the drop of the checker, Pete had worked his way up through the field of 40 to 9th overall
A super, strong drive.
Nicely done, Pete!

Bernard Bradpiece was doing his own thing this weekend, but apparently continued his trend of picking up seconds on his times from last year -- everywhere he goes I believe. Another satisfying weekend in the Merlyn F/F at 3rd overall and 1st in class!

Phil Meany really got a handle on the
Gropa Chevron
this weekend,
after his first event with it at Sebring
(pictured above).

He's got has hands on a real race car now
that handles, goes, stops -- no compromises.

Phil really drove the Gropa well, as could be
seen by his keeping Lee Brahin honest
in a much quicker and newer Lola.

Way to go!

 At 3rd overall & 2nd in class,
it's another podium finish
for Phil Meany!
