More than 30 authentic Formula One race cars (1966-1983) competed over the 12-turn, 2.26-mile road course that is Infineon Raceway. Included in the field were five world championship drivers' cars: Jackie Stewart's 1971-72 Tyrrell; James Hunt's 1976 McLaren; Niki Lauda's 1977 Ferrari; Mario Andretti's 1978 Lotus; and Alan Jones' 1979-80 Williams -- owned and raced by our own Hamish Somerville.

Hamish leads from the second lap to the finish -- a flawless performance

The '79 Williams FW07 F1 car rules at Infineon in Hamish's capable hands

Hamish Somerville takes the checker and the win!  Well done mate!!

Unfortunately, there were no podium photos to be had, as the IRL was anxious to get on with their own event (the HGP was only a "supporting" race).  On the other hand, Hamish's suit is permanently spotted with the champagne shower he got at the BRIC, so it's just as well....

Way to go Hamish!!!

A special thanks to Dave Vegher --
it was great spending some time with
the good people at Veloce Motors!
