More than 30 authentic Formula One race cars (1966-1983) competed over the
12-turn, 2.26-mile road course that is Infineon Raceway. Included in the
field were five world championship drivers' cars: Jackie Stewart's 1971-72
Tyrrell; James Hunt's 1976 McLaren; Niki Lauda's 1977 Ferrari; Mario
Andretti's 1978 Lotus; and Alan Jones'
1979-80 Williams -- owned and raced by our own Hamish Somerville.

Hamish
Somerville
takes the checker and the win! Well done mate!!![]() |
|
Unfortunately, there were no podium photos to be had, as the IRL was
anxious to get on with their own event (the HGP was only a "supporting"
race). On the other hand, Hamish's suit is permanently spotted with
the champagne shower he got at the
BRIC,
so it's just as well.... |
|

Way to go Hamish!!! |

A special thanks to Dave Vegher --
it was great spending some time with
the good people at Veloce Motors! |
